The past two Saturdays have been a beehive of activity at the club. First, the items meant to be sold at this year’s HAMFEST needed to be taken from the shipping containers and sorted as either saleable or non-saleable. There were many radios, power supplies, SWR meters, antennas and test equipment. This Saturday we tested everything that had a power cord and there was a lot! The first test was to determine if there were shorts or opens in the power cord and/or power supply. Then, when testing a power supply used to power transceivers, we measured the output to ensure it meets voltage standards for that particular power supply. If it passed, it got a green sticker and then we set a price. A big thank you to all who attended today, there were eight of us and everything went quite smooth.
All items for sale have been loaded into various members cars for transport to the HAMFEST tomorrow, Sunday 9th November. Looking forward to seeing as many of you that can attend.
Also today, we accepted a wonderful donation of 44 transceivers from VK4AZ, Alec, from Brisbane. These transceivers are on the 70cm band but we believe they can also be used on the 11 meter band. These radios will be used by the club to help promote activities that might include testing the radios by using or teaching electronic diagnostic methods, soldering and repairing techniques. More to come on this.
Alec, VK4AZ is an avid amateur radio enthusiast. He has built a number of repeater systems, upgraded Central Queensland APRS Network and microwave links plus installing mountain top weather cameras. GCARS thanks Alec for his donation and all that he has done for amateur radio.
