The Springbrook site is a cornerstone of our repeater network and has a long and proud history serving the Gold Coast amateur radio community. Situated on a high-elevation ridge within the stunning Springbrook National Park, this location provides the ideal vantage point for wide-area radio communication across the Gold Coast, Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, and parts of Brisbane.
For decades, this site has been the home of our primary 2-meter repeater, which operates under the historic call sign VK4RGC. This repeater, on its dedicated frequency of 146.700 MHz with a -600 kHz offset, has become the main hub for daily nets, technical discussions, and general conversation among local amateurs. The high-altitude location ensures strong and reliable signal coverage, making it a critical asset for both day-to-day hobby use and emergency communications.
A significant chapter in the history of this site occurred in 2023 when the repeater was relocated to a new, purpose-built facility on Springbrook. This strategic move was undertaken to secure the long-term future of our repeater service, allowing us to continue providing an uninterrupted and high-quality signal for our members and the wider community. While the physical location on the mountain has changed, the service and its legacy remain the same. The relocation process ensured the continuity of service and the preservation of a vital piece of our club’s infrastructure.
