Complementing our flagship Springbrook site, our facilities at Wongawallan represent our commitment to pioneering new and modern communication technologies for our members. Located in the Gold Coast hinterland, the Wongawallan site offers a strategic position to provide robust coverage in areas that may have limited access to our other repeaters. The location is particularly effective for covering the northern parts of the Gold Coast and the surrounding hinterland.
This site is a dynamic hub for a variety of services, serving as a key node for both traditional analog and cutting-edge digital communications. It hosts a suite of repeaters under the call sign VK4RBT, including:
- DMR (Digital Mobile Radio): This is the primary service on the site, operating on the 70cm band at 438.7125 MHz with a -7 MHz offset. The establishment of this repeater in 2018 marked a significant milestone, connecting local users to the wider DMR network and allowing for global conversations through the BrandMeister network.
- P.25 (Project 25) UHF: In addition to DMR, the Wongawallan site also supports the P.25 digital mode. This service operates on 439.825 MHz with a -5 MHz offset, providing clear, secure, and reliable communication for P.25-capable radios.
- Analog UHF: To ensure accessibility for all members, the site also includes an analog UHF repeater on the same 439.825 MHz frequency, sharing the site with the P.25 service. This repeater uses a CTCSS tone of 91.5 Hz.
- Analog VHF: An analog VHF repeater is also located at Wongawallan, operating on 147.200 MHz with a -1.6 MHz offset and a CTCSS tone of 91.5 Hz. This VHF machine serves as a valuable local resource, complementing the coverage of our Springbrook repeater.
- APRS (Automatic Packet Reporting System): The Wongawallan site is also a key part of our Automatic Packet Reporting System infrastructure. This service, operating on 145.175 MHz, allows for the transmission and reception of position data and short messages, providing real-time tracking and tactical communication capabilities for members in the field.
