Our commitment to serving the wider community extends beyond our fixed repeater sites. The GCARS Community Communication Centre (CCC) trailer is a cornerstone of our public service and emergency communications capabilities. This mobile facility is designed for rapid deployment, allowing our members to establish a fully-equipped communications hub wherever it is needed, particularly during emergencies or large-scale community events.

The CCC trailer is a self-contained unit, capable of operating independently for extended periods. It is equipped with a range of amateur, commercial and civillian radio equipment, including:

  • HF, VHF, and UHF, CB, AirBand and Marine radios: The trailer can operate across multiple radio bands, ensuring connectivity in a wide variety of scenarios, from local coordination to long-distance communication.
  • Antenna Systems: It carries a variety of antennas that can be quickly erected, providing a robust and flexible communication network.
  • Power Supply: The trailer has its own independent power source, with backup options to ensure continuous operation even during grid outages.
  • Operating Positions: Inside, there are dedicated operator positions with desk space, lighting, and power, allowing for effective and organized communication management.

The trailer is a tangible representation of the club’s dedication to its founding principles of public service. It has been deployed for various purposes, including:

  • Emergency Exercises: Participating in mock disaster scenarios with local emergency services to test and refine communication plans.
  • Public Events: Providing on-site communication support for events like triathlons, fun runs, and community festivals.
  • Emergency Response: Standing ready to deploy in the event of natural disasters, such as floods or bushfires, to provide a critical communications link when other services are compromised.

The CCC trailer is maintained and operated by a team of dedicated members, who regularly conduct training exercises to ensure it is always ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice. It is a key asset that showcases the value of amateur radio in supporting the community in times of need.
